In my work, I use color in its role as transformative agent.
I am particularly interested in color systems attached to socio-religious
philosophies, and I use these as a framework for the themes in my work.
Kabbalah, Feng Shui, Theosophy, Alchemy, all view color as a dynamic
principle through which the life of the individual can be affected or
transformed.
The desire for foreknowledge, protection, wealth, love, power, health and
healing has been with us since the dawn of humanity. The various avenues
by which these are pursued often include recipes and treatments replete
with symbolism which acts as both guide and goal.
Gold in painting or sculpture refers to more than the color itself because
added to it is the light-reflective quality. That together with the
metaphor of incorruptibility with which it is associated gives gold a
unique position in color symbolism. It points the way to that which is
unique and inviolable in all of us.
Crocus Solis is a gold tincture prepared by Renaissance alchemists who
believed they were creating the Elixir of Life.
